The competition is open to each candidate who meets the requirements set out in the Higher Education and Science Act of July 20th 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1668 as amended) and the Statute of University of Wroclaw.

Call for the position of Assistant Professor (post-doc) in the Taube Department of Jewish Studies, within the NCN SONATA-BIS project “History of Hasidic Popular Culture after the Holocaust” (grant no. 2025/58/E/HS3/00103), led by Dr. Wojciech Tworek. The call is addressed to scholars in literary studies, history, cultural studies, and religious studies who are proficient in Yiddish and interested in researching works of Hasidic popular culture created in that language.

Requirements
The candidate is required to have:

  1. PhD in Humanities in history, literary studies or cultural and religious studies (a doctoral degree must be obtained in the year of employment in the project, or within 7 years prior to January 1, 2026)
  2. A track record of academic publications (at least one first-author publication in a recognised peer-reviewed international journal).
  3. Expertise in history and culture of Hasidism.
  4. Academic interests focused on Jewish Orthodox history and culture, popular culture, lived religion, Jewish literatures.
  5. Experience in archival research.
  6. Analytical and synthesising skills.
  7. Experience in teamwork.
  8. Fluency in Yiddish.
  9. Reading knowledge of Hebrew.
  10. At least B2 level of English.

Responsibities
In the research area:

  1. Research on works of Hasidic popular culture (music, literature, performing arts) created between 1945 and 2025 in the Hebrew language, and their reception.
  2. Interpretation of research results using the tools of cultural anthropology, cultural history, lived religion, comparative analysis, archival analysis, and source criticism.
  3. Participation in team meetings.
  4. Following the latest academic reports in local and international journals.
  5. Preparation and submission of academic articles.
  6. Active participation in academic conferences.

In the organizational area:

  1. Participation in academic meetings and seminars.
  2. Preparation of academic publications.
  3. Active participation in academic conferences.
  4. Dissemination actions to academic and non-academic audiences.
  5. Supporting doctoral candidates and master’s students.

  6. Self-presentation (information about scientific, organizational, and other achievements).
  7. List scientific publications in the last ten years.
  8. Electronic versions of the two most important publications that the candidate considers representative of his or her scientific achievements or an explanation of the lack of them.
