The competition is open to each candidate who meets the requirements set out in the Higher Education and Science Act of July 20th 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571) and the Statute of University of Wroclaw.

Project: NCN Sonata BIS 15, No. 2025/58/E/ST1/00143

Project title: “Systems of equations and growth rates in groups”
Project description: The aim of the project is to study the class of equationally Noetherian groups, i.e. groups in which every system of equations – expressions of the form s = 1 for an element s in a finitely generated free group – has the same solution set as a finite subsystem. The project will also study the relationship between equational Noetherianity and well-ordering of the exponential growth rates in finitely generated groups. The project will use geometric methods such as acylindrical group actions on trees, as well as other methods coming from algebra and logic.
Remuneration: PLN 140,000 per year (gross salary including the employer contribution), or approx. PLN 6,400 per month after tax.
Travel budget of approx. PLN 15,000 per year is available.

Requirements
The candidate is required to have:

  1. Doctoral degree in Mathematics.
  2. Active participation in scientific research, including international collaborations.
  3. Research experience in Geometric Group Theory.
  4. Publications in reputable scientific journals.
  5. Fluency in English, at least at the B2 level.

Fulfilment of the requirements specified in the Regulations on awarding funding for the implementation of research tasks funded by the National Science Centre – all of the following conditions shall be met by the person to be employed at the position:

  1. Their PhD degree has been conferred in the year of employment in the project or within 12 years before 1 January of the year of employment in the project. This period may be extended by a time of long-term (in excess of 90 days) documented sick leaves or physiotherapy leaves granted on account of being unfit to work. In addition, the period may be extended by the number of months of a childcare leave granted pursuant to the Labour Code and in the case of women, by 18 months for every child born or adopted, whichever manner of accounting for career breaks is preferable.
  2. Their PhD degree has been awarded by another institution than the one planned to employ them at this post or they have completed a continuous and evidenced post-doctoral fellowship of at least 10 months in another institution than the host institution for the project and in another country than the one in which they have been conferred a PhD degree.
  3. The person will be employed for a period of at least 6 months.
  4. When the remuneration is paid, they will be receiving no other remuneration paid from the funds granted to research projects under NCN calls under the heading of direct costs.
  5. When the remuneration is paid, they will be receiving no remuneration from another employer pursuant to an employment contract, including an employer with registered office outside of Poland.
  6. When the remuneration is paid, they will be receiving no pension under the social security scheme.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conducting scientific research and maintaining systematic collaboration with the project leader, project team members, as well as the staff and students of the Geometry Department.
  2. Participating in scientific activities, including meetings, seminars, and active involvement in conferences and other research trips.
  3. Preparing scientific publications related to the project.
  4. Carrying out auxiliary tasks necessary for the implementation of the research project.
