Applications are invited from those who fulfill the statutory requirements specified in the Higher Education Act from 20th July 2018 (Dz. U. z 2018 r., poz. 1668) and the statutes of the University of Wroclaw.
Requirements:
- A PhD or MSc in biological sciences, recognised in Poland. If the applicant has an MSc, they must be a PhD candidate.
- Research interests aligned with the activities of natural history museum and experience in curating scientific collections.
- Documented scientific achievements, including in journals indexed on the Thompson Scientific Master Journal List, in the field of vertebrate zoology, with a minimum score of 100 points form the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the last five years.
- Experience in managing or participating in research projects, including international ones.
- Experience of scientific international cooperation.
- Experience of educational work at university level and conducting classes with schoolchildren.
- All scientific research must fall within the discipline of biological sciences.
- Fluency in Polish, both spoken and written.
- English language competence at a level corresponding to at list B2.
Additional advantages will be:
- Using software dedicated to morphological analysis (geometric morphometry and 3D modelling of computer tomography renders) and statistical analysis (fluent work in the R environment).
- Using molecular biology laboratory techniques, including sequencing and analyzing microsatellite DNA.
- Ability to work with databases and museum catalogues.
- Licence to operate electric fishing gear and driving licence category B.
Responsibilities (in the research area, teaching area, organisational area respectively):
In the research area:
- Individual research in the field of vertebrate zoology using the resources of the museum’s collection.
- Participation in team research as part of projects carried out by the Museum of Natural History.
- Participation in scientific conferences.
- Curatorial supervision of part of the scientific collection of the Museum of Natural History.
In the teaching area :
- Conducting classes for students at the Museum of Natural History and other units within the Faculty of Biological Sciences.
- Designing and delivering specialist subjects to extend the educational offer of the Museum of Natural History for students.
- Supervising diploma theses and internships projects.
- Conducting educational activities for school students as part of museum lessons and other educational programs at the Faculty of Biological Sciences.
- Supervising some part of the museum’s exhibitions.
In the organizational area:
- Involvement in the work of collective bodies and committees within the structure of the University of Wroclaw.
- Participation in the organisation of temporary exhibitions and other activities of the Museum of Natural History in cooperation with the socio-economic environment.
