Employment under the National Science Center project of the OPUS project of the National Science Center (2024/53/B/ST4/01386), under the title ” Principles of hidden zinc bioinorganic chemistry: Tuning sequence-structurestability relationships for enhanced zinc protein functionality”.
The principal investigator of the project is professor Artur Krężel.
The main goal of the project is to investigate the sequence-structure-function relationships in zinc proteins subject to changes under intracellular labile Zn(II) fluctuations. These proteins differ from commonly known zinc proteins due to alterations in Zn(II)-coordinating residues as well as surrounding sequential and structural elements. Thus, we aim to elucidate structural and thermodynamic aspects that underlie the evolutionary pressure to obtain such sites, which are commonly used in a cell to play regulatory functions. Through thorough chemical, biophysical, and structural analyses, we seek to uncover the hidden factors that determine dedicated cellular functionality. Understanding the rules that govern zinc protein designation is relevant to basic science and biotechnology, protein engineering, and protein-based drug design. Knowledge of the entire spectrum of mechanisms that drive the dynamic activity of zinc proteins is essential for understanding the elusive and difficult-to-investigate zinc signaling mechanisms in which the activity of regulatory proteins is tuned due to physiological or pathological reasons.
Our team has extensive experience working on metalloproteins, determining their structure, stability, and mechanisms of (un)folding and interaction with other biomolecules. - PhD in chemical, biological sciences or in related disciplines.
- Scientific achievements documented by publications and implemented projects
- Experience in recombinant protein expression and purification.
- Experience in metalloproteins research is highly appreciated.
- Knowledge of modern spectroscopic techniques, mass spectrometry (preferred proteomics approaches).
- Ability to present achievements confirmed by documented presentations at the national or international forum Active participation in conferences, workshops, courses and other forms of supporting scientific development.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Motivation to scientific work.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Participation in scientific meetings.
- Preparation of scientific publications.
