The competition is open to each candidate who meets the requirements set out in the Higher Education and Science Act of July 20th 2018 (JoL 2018, item 1668 as amended) and the Statute of University of Wroclaw.

Competition Requirements

Candidates are expected to meet the following criteria:

  1. Holding at least a doctoral degree in social sciences in the field of international relations or political science and administration, specialising in international relations.
  2. Documented academic achievements in the field of research on the Polar and Northern regions of the world.
  3. Proficiency in English sufficient to conduct classes in that language. Documented experience in conducting classes in English.
  4. Experience in conducting research projects.
  5. Specific plans for conducting research and academic developments in the field of International Relations, with particular emphasis on the issues of the Northern regions (the Arctic, Greenland, the Nordic countries, Russia, Canada, the USA).

Additional considerations in the evaluation process include:

1. Documented knowledge of a modern foreign language other than English at a level sufficient to enable cooperation with partners involved in research and teaching projects.

2. Experience in editing academic texts. Planned publications, publications submitted for printing, certified by relevant documents.

Scope of Responsibilities:

1. Conducting academic research.

2. Preparing academic publications in highly rated journals and other prestigious publications.

3. Applying for national and external (including international) research grants.

4. Teaching activities with first- and second- degree students and doctoral students (also in English).

5. Establishing and maintaining contacts with domestic and foreign academic and teaching centres, scientific centres, and analytical and expert centres.

6. Supporting the process of preparing academic texts within the framework of the Department of Regional and Developmental Studies.

  5. Declaration as to the discipline in which the candidate will conduct research, and in the case of people conducting research in more than one discipline: the percentage share of their involvement in each of these disciplines (download Declaration of scientific discipline).
  6. An autoreference containing a description of the applicant’s scientific activity, degree of internationalisation, organisational activity and teaching, and a plan for scientific development.
  7. A list of the candidate’s publications for a period of no more than 10 years.
  8. Electronic versions of the two most important publications which the applicant considers to be representative of his/her scientific output, or an explanation of their absence.
  9. Application for employment addressed to the Rector.
  10. Declaration – article 113 the Law on Higher Education and Science (download Declaration – Article 113).
